" BOSTON (CBS) - The details of the Brandon Browner contract were made public by Mike Reiss and Field Yates on Monday, and it appears to offer the Patriots quite a bit of protection.

Browner is a skilled athlete, but has had trouble with the NFL’s substance abuse policy and that’s reflected in his new contract.

Browner’s deal for 3 seasons can be worth up to $16.8 million, but it is heavily incentive-laden.

There is only $1 million guaranteed, and that is his base salary for 2014 "
