ESPN host Karl Ravech tweeted on Monday that there’s “nothing official yet but hearing Pedroia likely to miss a month.”
Manager Bobby Valentine addressed the media shortly after the report surfaced, but he said he did not yet have an update.
“There has been an MRI taken, and we need time to get those results,” Valentine said, adding that Pedroia has dealt with some sort of issue for three weeks. “He got jammed about three weeks ago, so he started wearing some protection. … I think the situation, it’s weak enough or bruised enough that if something re-occurs then maybe it could get really serious.
“I dont know how to classify it,” Valentine added. “We don’t have a diagnosis.”
Initial reports on Pedroia said that he jammed his thumb while making a diving play in the fifth inning of Monday’s win over the Tigers, but Valentine said he believes the problem arose earlier in the game when Pedroia hit an inside fastball "
